Questions people ask
How is the RAP payment calculated?+
1% to 10% of your adjusted gross income, depending on your income band ($10,000 steps), divided by 12, minus $50 a month for each dependent. The minimum is $10 a month.
When did RAP start?+
1 July 2026. It replaces SAVE, PAYE and ICR over time; borrowers on older plans have until 1 July 2028 to move.
What if my payment doesn't cover the interest?+
Under RAP, interest you can't cover with an on-time payment is waived, and the government matches up to $50 so your principal goes down every month.
