Questions people ask

What new deductions can I claim for 2026?+

For 2025–2028 there are four new deductions on Schedule 1-A: qualified tips (up to $25,000), overtime premium (up to $12,500, or $25,000 joint), $6,000 per person aged 65+, and up to $10,000 of interest on a loan for a new US-assembled car. You can take them even if you use the standard deduction; each phases out at higher incomes.

Is overtime completely tax-free now?+

No. Only the premium part (the extra 'half' of time-and-a-half) is deductible, up to the cap, and it still counts for Social Security and Medicare taxes.

How much is the child tax credit for 2026?+

$2,200 per qualifying child under 17, of which up to $1,700 can be refunded even if you owe no tax. It starts phasing out above $200,000 of income ($400,000 joint).
